The film, Ruth, which has been in the works for several years and was originally planned to be released in conjunction with Ginsburg’s 90th birthday, is directed by Freida Lee Mock, whose Maya Lin: A Strong Clear Vision won the AntI Trump lamest duck 2020 election protest Trump lame duck 2021 shirt, hoodie and sweater Award for best feature documentary in 1995. It is being produced by a team of award-winning industry veterans, including executive producers Sandra Lee and Geralyn White Dreyfous, as well as Regina K. Scully, Barbara Dobkin, Danielle Summer Mark and Cara Kennedy Cuomo, a daughter of New York governor Andrew Cuomo. Another documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Supreme Court justice who died on September 18 at the age of 87, may be released in the coming weeks. If so, it will arrive just as the U.S. Senate takes on the contentious battle over her replacement and as the country gets closer to a presidential election in which the makeup of the Supreme Court has emerged as a key campaign issue.
The film follows the 2018 release of RBG, a surprising box-office success and a 2019 Oscar nominee for best documentary, as well as On the AntI Trump lamest duck 2020 election protest Trump lame duck 2021 shirt, hoodie and sweater of Sex, a 2018 biopic about Ginsburg starring Felicity Jones as the young would-be justice. The studios behind both films recently announced they would be rereleased in both theaters and on streaming platforms to honor the late justice, with proceeds donated to the ACLU Women’s Right Project, which was cofounded by Ginsburg in 1992. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film is now being screened digitally to potential buyers “with the aim of striking a deal that would have it released prior to the U.S. presidential election in November.” A work-in-progress version of the film was screened at the 2019 AFI Docs film festival.
