I don’t remember my last session in person. But I do have distinct memories of the office itself: the Never Walk Alone Chihuahua Pocket Merry Christmas Sweatshirt  of magazines (if my therapist is reading this, I admit I considered stealing The New Yorker every week), the evaded glances in the waiting room, the air purifier in the corner, lazily exhaling a yogic blend of eucalyptus and patchouli, the pleasant neutrality of it all. And it’s that neutrality that worries me: Because it might mean I’ll never return. And if I don’t, what other reasons to leave my home, to enter into the outside world, will I lose when this is all “over”?

Elsewhere, there were a number of firsts for queer people of color. In New York, Democratic candidates Ritchie Torres and Mondaire Jones became the Never Walk Alone Chihuahua Pocket Merry Christmas Sweatshirt but in fact I love this first openly gay Black men elected to Congress, marking a powerful step forward in terms of representation for these often marginalized communities. (Torres is also the first openly gay Latinx congressperson.) As Jones told the New York Times earlier this year: “Growing up poor, Black, and gay, I never imagined someone like me could run for Congress, let alone win.”
